5S has become one of the fastest growing methods for workplace organization. Developed by Hiroyuki Hirano in Japan, 5S is now an essential part of any lean transformation. The systematic approach to workplace organization can have a tremendous upside when implemented correctly into an organization, including improved efficiency and productivity. However, without proper implementation the system can fall on its face in a hurry. There are several helpful videos to help you with your transformation. 5S Into Action from directors D.A. Goritsas and Collin McLoughlin is one of the the most common video shown to organizations looking to get into 5S.

5S Into Action: Sustaining the Results and Realizing the Benefits

5S Into ActionIn reviewing 5S Into Action, I found myself to be rather pleased with the language and content used to create a 5S vision in the workplace. The video is not long, but this can be handy when trying to keep the attention of a staff in transition. However, its length does not discount the amount of information included in the video.

Right from the start the video begins to explain and walk you through 5S, plus the benefits associated with it. The focus is on creating a visual workplace that can be used as a communication tool for anyone and everyone. The video lays a solid foundation down and walks you through each step of the 5S process, putting an equal importance on each step.

While most videos are simply a “how-to,” 5S Into Action does a great job of not only walking you through each phase of 5S, but also the benefits that apply directly to the employee. I find this to be a great motivational tool to engage employees and get them interested in the process, rather than simply telling them there’s a new way of doing things.

The re-enactments of the factory shop in the video were very helpful in translating real-life situations that one could take back to the shop with them.

I would highly recommend this video to anyone who is just getting into 5S, all the way up to the experienced 5S master who is in need of a quick refresher. I know that a lot of training videos can be dry and just dreadful to sit through, but fear not, 5S Into Action is not your typical training video. Enna has gone to great lengths to ensure high production values and quality features that keep the viewer engaged.

5S is truly about creating a visual workplace that communicates to your employees, customers, and managers as to the health and vision of the business.
